Can you imagine a world where the
Internet is not managed by a browser? Or a world where there is only one
browser? Hard to believe, right?
The second chapter of “The True Story of
the Internet”, “Search”, talks about the rise of Yahoo! and Google. The first
browser created was Yahoo! and it was developed in The University of Stanford.
Its creation was due to the need of a tool that helped people use the Internet,
since in “those times” the Internet was not used in a very effective way.
Yahoo! was the first browser; it made
money with advertisements from other companies, these advertisements appeared
while browsing the Internet. Yahoo! was really good, but since it was the first
browser developed, it was not the perfect browser, it had some failures and
details that could be fixed. So, other developers in Stanford took advantage of
the improvement issues and created another browser, they created Google.
Nowadays, Google is one of the most valuable
companies in the world, and it its time, Yahoo! was too. Most of the people who
were involved in the creation of these companies, would not imagine that someday
they would at the top of the technology world and that their products would be
so important to us, the users.
The invention of
the browsers was a real innovation event, since it continues until today and it
seems not to end soon. However, if this topic continues growing, it will be
really interesting to see which new details and things will be created and how
developers will go beyond the limits in order to get something new. It could be
that, maybe, in the future, we will not be able to search things in the
Internet with a browser, but with a new invention, who knows.
